Here the important thing to be noticed is that we’ll know the first line but not when it is needed on that point of time. Most of us would have come across this at some point in various situations. What is memory power? How does it come? How to increase your memory power? The 7 ways to improve your memory power are given here.

What is Memory Power?

Our brain can be compared to computer. We are recording information on the computer the same way we are transferring information to our brain. This is called as ‘encoding’. Later these information are recorded in our brain. This is called as ‘Storage’. We are able to retrieve the information from a computer as and when needed. The same way brain is also taking out the saved information when required. This is called “Retrieval”. These three activities – Encoding, Storage and Retrieval are combined together to call it as “Memory Power”. Even if any one of these three gets disturbed, our memory power will be affected.

How it Works?

Encode: The information is transferred to the brain through many ways like images, signals, language etc. When we do multiple action at a time, all the information regarding that will be carried to our brain.

Storage: The information carried to the brain is later stored in three ways like short-term memory power, very short-term memory power and long-term memory power. Short-term memory will forget the information soon. On the way we will be seeing many advertisements and hoardings. Within the next few minutes, we’ll forget what we had seen. This is very short-term memory. Only a few advertisements would attract us and we might think about that for a while. Those advertisements would stay in our mind for a few hours or a few days time. This is called a short-term memory. Our name, father and mother’s name, house address, mobile number etc. are being used by us frequently so those information stay long in our brain. This is called as long-term memory.

Retrieval: Information like our name will come to our memory instantly. But when you ask what is your teacher’s name while you were in your 2nd grade you’ll have to think for it. It is inside our brain. Like Google search engine, it has to search for it. School’s name, friend’s name, important happenings in the school – such things will come initially and you’ll be getting the teacher’s name finally. To improve your memory power concentration is more important. One has to stay away from incidents that distract your concentration. The recorded instructions in your brain have to repeated like rehearsal.

7 Ways – How to Improve your Memory Power

Multiple Tasks at Once

In today’s digital world we need to do multiple tasks at a time. We’ll be doing some work and watching TV news. But after sometime we would’ve forgot what they read in the news. Generally, when we hear new information, it has to get registered at the “Cerebral Cortex” of the brain. When we do multi-task at a time there is difficulty in getting registered there. But this can be rectified easily. If you find that certain info that we are hearing must be required to retrieve in future or later, you must concentrate only on that point instead of paying divided concentration in everything.

Triggering the Memory Power

When Vitamin B complex reduces it will affect our memory power. As we grow old it is natural that the efficiency to retain Vitamin B decreases. So, as per medical advice it is good to take vitamin B tablets.

Rejuvenate your Mind

Meditation reduces your mental pressure and saves your brain cells being affected. Further, it helps your brain to retain and save the information for a longer period – as per researches. This method helps you to keep your mind fresh and keeps your memory sharp. In a day, do meditation at least for30 minutes to improve your memory power.

Eat Apples

Apple contains more antioxidant. This increases the neurotransmitters level which is called “acetylcholine” that helps in memory power. Additionally, this helps in saving the brain cells from being affected from our daily work and related activities.

Say NO to Fat

When the bad fat called LDL increases in your body it gets sedimentted in the blood vessels affecting the blood flow to your brain. Due to this brain doesn’t get basic energizers to function which in turn will affect your memory power. Keep monitoring the fat level in your blood and keep it under control.

Play Crosswords and Puzzles

Mind needs exercise too like your body. By giving continuous training to your brain the mental health also is being taken care. It is enough to play “Sudoku” sort of game. Concentration and memory power increasing these activities have to continue now and then.

Check the Iron Level

Iron helps in the functioning of neurotransmitters in the brain. When there is iron deficiency in the system or heavy blood loss in women during menstrual cycle might decrease the iron level in your body. This could affect the memory power of your brain. Intake of natural iron content like “dates” can increase your memory power.
